👯 Why An Accountability Partner Might Be The Missing Piece You Need!
What if there was a way to make it much more likely that you’ll reach your goals and follow through with your plans? If you're looking for help with eating better, saving money without expenses, courses, and programs, try taking on an accountability partner!
Interested, let's dive in.
Unlike a coach or mentor relationship, which is usually one-way, an accountability partnership is reciprocal. You and your partner work together to pursue your goals and keep each other on track. With your partner, you work together to pursue your goals and keep each other on track.
This person can help you break bad habits, stay consistent, and finally move forward with your goals while you do the same for them.
How to find an accountability partner
While there are many benefits, finding the right partner can take time. Look for someone who:
Is like-minded and is working toward similar goals as you
Also wants accountability for those goals
Is comfortable sharing personal details with you (and you with them)
Communicates similarly (i.e., email, text, phone, video, in-person? How frequently?)
Be patient in your search, and take your time to find the right fit. Here are a few places to start:
People you know: Reach out to trusted friends and family, co-workers, associates, and share a little about your goals. Communicate that you're looking for support as well as willing to support others with similar goals.
Local groups: Look for local groups dedicated to the topic of your goal (such as personal finances, health, career, and so on). Spend time forging connections there, and a partnership may come naturally.
Online groups: You can do research for online groups where you can find people who want to achieve similar things. The Clever Girl Finance Channel on Instagram is a great place to get motivated and stay accountable!
A virtual partner: If you don't have access to someone or haven't had any luck finding a partner, try finding a virtual one. Choose someone you admire, and follow their social platforms, read their books or articles. This way, you'll stay inspired until you find the right partner for you.
Characteristics to look for
Look for someone who is encouraging. They should believe in you and your goals, have your best interests in mind, and be excited about your progress.
Find someone who will tell you the truth. Yes, you want someone kind and helpful, but it's also important that they show you some tough love by providing honest feedback that will help you grow.
Choose a person who is invested in your progress. This person will have check-ins with you to see how things are going and will offer insights and ideas to help you do better.
Make sure you care about their goals too. An accountability relationship works both ways. Ask them about their specific goals and encourage them on their journey just as much as they encourage you.
How to make the partnership work
Choose the right person
Be specific about your big-picture goals and the steps to reach them
Develop a shared system to track progress
Check in regularly and consistently
Be direct, honest, and supportive
Set clear deadlines and celebrate milestones
Working with an accountability partner can be a game-changer for your success.
